In February of 2012, Parasyn completed the final testing and commissioning of the Control System Upgrade & installation for the Tablelands Regional Council (TRC). The work began in mid 2011 and consisted of upgrades to the Mareeba, Mt Garnet, Millaa Millaa, Yungaburra and Dimbulah Water Treatment Plants.
Stretching across an amalgamation of previously separate councils, with disparate systems and requirements, the project needed to minimise treatment plant failures and the loss of availability of service caused by control system failures.
By providing a standardised SCADA operator interface for all plant it became possible to allow for unmanned and remote operation with off-site monitoring and control of all plant. Parasyn also implemented an alarm system that ensures initiation and management of alarms for two of the major towns’ water treatment plants (Mareeba & Dimbulah).
To future proof the system it now has the ability to optimise plant control parameters to improve operations and reliability and to cater for future plant modifications. Design for the upgrade and new parts of the system were completed April 2011 with successful testing completed in September 2011. Despite difficult deadlines, great relationships and understanding was forged between the TRC and Parasyn implementation and support teams. Well done guys!
With the new system completed TRC can look forward to reduced support requirements.
