Integration Products that glue together unlike systems are usually referred to as middleware.
Middleware empowers a solution design to take advantage of the best of or specific application
software available. Perhaps your enterprise has standardized on a particular HMI and invested
heavily in this in the past. Your choice of Historian or production database may not connect
directly to your HMI. In this and other cases, middleware applications aim to seamlessly connect
unlike systems permitting standard tools, databases, HMIs to be used. The greatest benefit is
realized when robust industrial applications of choice can be used even when they come from
different vendors.
